In our paper published in JAIDS Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes, we evaluated the impact of providing supplementation to lactating HIV+ women receiving antiretroviral therapy. We found that provision of lipid base nutrient supplementation protected women from iron deficiency. Given the increasing proportion of lactating HIV+ women receiving antiretroviral therapy, lipid based nutrient supplementation may be a beneficial adjuvant to this therapy to support maternal nutritional status during lactation.
